Persuasion..

If the mum is to be believed, A used to roll in the street pavement crying out loud. He always needed a car toy that the street vendor sold. But A had great ethics even as young as a 1yr old! He never asked for the same toy twice, and never asked for more than one toy. And A had already mastered persuasion by embarrassment – perhaps a sign of things to come? ...

This week on tech #2

The last time I went running in Jurong, I was given an RFID tag and later on my timing was published on a website. I had some theories on how they could have done this until I landed this site recently. So if you plan to host a running, then you might want to read this link! And then I came across another link to build a IoT oscilloscope for $25. Reading on, I think more than the scope, I love the idea of getting a $20 board that I can play with. Surely in my to buy list in the next set. ...

This week on tech #1

This one is long due – More than a week. A small note and the links I stumbled upon and was delighted to know. I’ll update every week, hopefully. Ever wanted to code during a presentation and get it right in front of all the audience? Here’s what you may need! Because sometimes you need to do it live This was fun knowing and hope to use it some day when I host a code hackathon or code demo 🙂 ...

On Absurdity…

Strange as it may seem, I seem to have fun with absurdity. Everybody does, to some extent. But sometimes I have fun at somethings that don’t even catch the attention of my wife. To the extent she now believes I am a tad weird in this topic. For instance, a few of these one liners gets me to laugh every single time! Most people are immune to it after the second or third times! ...

Spicing it up a little …

Starting this weekend, I plan to write one post every week. Oh, the one post a day plan is still on – but as you can see it is not quite there yet. But this weekly post is a slightly different idea – one that hopefully will help me connect back to my original intentions. You might be aware of my arduino daily. It is an automatically generated page from paper.li . That’s quite good and quite a few people do like the effort. I do too which is why I created it in the first place. But as I have grown to learn, it lacks some thing. The missing bit, I believe, is the personal touch. ...

Relief

It feels good, sometimes, to know that you were not the only one to make certain mistakes. Or that you were not the only one in your situation. Sadistic as it may sound, I think I just got to talk to another person who shares my story. While I wish him the best in his endeavors, I wish I had known him earlier or spoke more often. For a fact, when I told a few of my friends in Cognizant that I was leaving the company to research at IITM, most of them said – “you gotta be crazy! why would you waste your life? And what can IITM give you that CTS cannot already? Just talk to your manager and get one or two onsite opportunities and you’ll be just fine!”. Sometimes I have wondered if they were correct. But the experience and inspiration I got from my stint at IITM is unparalleled. Nothing to look back and regret. ...

One Year of Singapore

It is a few days and a year since we moved to Singapore. I was reflecting on this episode of my life and I felt I missed a few points. While I don’t know if want to rant on them and feel further let down, I do want to collect my thoughts some place and revisit later. I came to Singapore because I fell in love with the place when I first came in. Rohini says that happens to the place you first relocate to; She still loves Chicago better even if she agrees Singapore may be better than Chicago in some aspects. I can’t dispute because I haven’t been to the west at all. ...

Ideas

A good friend shared this article with me – Why I want you to steal my ideas. If you didn’t already know from the title, this one is by the renowned blogger Seth Godin. I love Seth’s work and I read his blog regularly. Some of his writings are very thought provoking and makes you want to re-evaluate your stand on many day-to-day things. Here is my favorite line from the above link. ...

Movie Marathon

Rohini and I have been on a movie marathon recently. We caught up on quite a few movies after a long lull. I am going to quickly summarize my thoughts here. The first one in the series is “Jobs”. We were quite bored one Friday night about 2 weeks back and decided to catch a movie. After a lot of thought on what we’d want to see, we decided to catch up on Jobs movie. While I don’t have a great memory of the movie, I really would give it to the make-up team. Kutcher looks uncannily like Jobs in a lot of the shots and so do the lead cast. That was fantastic. Some of the points seem to have departed from whatever little I have read of Jobs’ life. So I didn’t quite like the distortion. Verdict: its ok if you haven’t seen this one. Perhaps, “pirate of the silicon valley” is a little more interesting! ...

Cyclop’s Eye

Just like the last time, I saw another tutorial on pyroelectro. This one created a cyclop’s eye. I was interested in trying this out using my arduino. Again, it slightly departs from the tutorial. You can take a look at the code on github. Leave your suggestions in comments!
