The counting is starting in a while and the internet connection at office is flaky!! Not today, I say! I should have sent money y’day. Tomorrow there is at least a 50% chance, I stand to lose on exchange rate. Unfortunately that is also what I wish for my country – for the rupee to gain in value because of good governance and economic policies. All the best India. Rohini and I saw this movie yesterday in a theatre. Yeah, those deserve mentions because it may not make economic sense to go to the theatre these days when you can catch very good quality right in your ipad and youtube. Sometimes going to the theatre has a good feel to it, provided that the movie does not kill it for you. This one did not. I read this book by Chetan Bhagat about 3 yrs back. IMO, this book is one his better works. And I feel the movie has remained fairly faithful to the book unlike the earlier two. I don’t remember the call center thing – did that become a movie too? Alia, sort of notorious for her IQ, seems to have done a good job of the acting. Either she scores or the makers score for fixing things post production. The male lead is ok too and I seem to see a resemblance to the B which may have helped somewhere. I am not sure if he acted as well, but he did not stick out too bad. ...

Annoying, hilarious or however else you look at it, this program is perhaps the best thing a movie based channel ever came up with. For once, it makes us realize how difficult it is to deliver a dialogue with appropriate tonal variations and timing, body language even if the entire picture is not clear. So what if it took a 100 takes, most of us would still find it difficult. ...

We were discussing something yesterday and it came up for us to arrive at all the possible words with at least 3 letters using the letters in the word ‘football’. We started out with a paper and pencil and came up with about 2 dozens when it struck me that I could do this with python. The pseudo code in my mind was this: generate all permutations/combinations of the letters in the word ...

Perhaps the best tool I ever learnt. I still remembering my boss mentioning this in a casual chat and encouraging us to learn Python. Sometime in 2005, I think. I learnt the basic usage in about a week. Python has been my language of choice since then. Its a little sad to think I have not quite mastered the language till date! I still have a long way to go before I can claim to be good in python. ...

… That’s a thought that keeps hitting me every now and then. I am reasonably good at my work (or) at least not so bad that somebody had to ask me get my act straight. Yet. I definitely like what I do. So that’s not where it starts either. But sometimes, computers are all that fascinate me. A fascinating field of study. I always had a thing for Artificial Intelligence. I even did an elective course in my bachelor’s. Only later I understood that the course did not even scratch the surface. It just saw it using a home made telescope, where the topic is probably the moon. That’s like the best thing that keeps happening to me. A lot of people around me, do their best to motivate me. And they do succeed for a brief while, before they have to start again. Apart from being a lucrative value proposition, I doubt if motivational speech can be of any good! Of course, it has its short term values. And perhaps some people can, by themselves, stay re-assured with what they heard. But some like me cannot. So fundamentally, the entire concept falls apart. Like my wife quips, I might need a miracle to trust in God. And I might need it quite often too! ...

I usually take a bus to work around 930 in the morning. Late, yes, but I usually start my work day at 8. Anyway, that’s not the point. I usually manage to catch the same bus – by time, route and the driver! And for two reasons. One is, duh, that’s the first bus around this time. Second is the driver! This guy gives you a “good morning!” as you board the bus. And I usually wish him back. And this simple exchange brightens up my mood for a very long time into the day. ...

So, I am running behind schedule by one post. I definitely have to catch up and fix. Or my eventual ambition of writing my biography would become a dream! Why would I write my bio? Simple, how else will the world know my existence. Why should they know? Good one. Maybe for what I am today, they are better off not knowing. But by the time I get to writing my bio, I would be someone they might as well know! ...
